The Bike Track at the new EMPD building site on 5th Avenue
THE PROBLEM
This bike track dates back many years and many residents remember having birthday parties there. The area was neglected and unused for many years and is now located within the building site of the new EMPD building.
WHAT WE DID
Our team spent the day prior to the event cutting all the very long grass, raking and removing it. They then cleaned all the kerbing in preparation for repainting. We cut down dead trees and removed grass to plant some gardens.
On the day of the event, together with the community we repainted the kerbing and road markings. We planted gardens as well as painted tyres to place around the track and planted flowers in them. We erected a basketball hoop and hopscotch area.
And most of all we had fun while the children cycled around the track.
WHO MADE IT HAPPEN
A Ward 27 collaboration achieved some stunning results with the amazing help from residents and businesses who answered calls for help!
Thank you to these businesses who came on board to bring the bike park back to life!
Rynfield Hardware for building supplies to repair parts of the road.
RB Design & Print for replacing the stickers for the road signs.
Ripple Creek Nursery for the donation of plants.
Micon The Coating and Chemical Company for the kerbing paint.
Honeycomb BEE cycling team for the paint for the robots.
Michael from Elektec for helping to restore power to the robots.
Werner from Revive Maintenance and Services and George from the Avenues Residents Association for paint for the tyres.
Harcourts for joining us on the day to keep us all hydrated and treated with snacks.
And lastly to the awesome Benoni community who joined us on the day to paint, garden, clear litter and rake the grass.
It truly was a team effort! Without you this transformation wouldn’t have been possible.
